Olsztyn joins the KZN Rail’s portfolio

The company from the KZN Bieżanów Group has recently completed the investment projects necessary to launch tram communication in Olsztyn. KZN Rail built the track layout of the tram depot at ul. Kołobrzeska, and the track bed at ul. Obiegowa.

IMG_5288The Olsztyn tram depot that was completed a few days ago is the result of the joint effort of Budimex and KZN Rail consortium. The Krakow-based company performed all the works related to the construction of the rail surface. These included: complete yard throats, tracks in the tram repair and holding hall (including tracks on the tram bogies servicing and repair stations, access tracks to repair facilities and tram wash plant), and a track for brake tests. The track bed enables bidirectional traffic on the whole structure. Also, the track layout in ul. Towarowa was made as part of the task. In total, this makes 3 km of tracks with several dozen new turnouts. “The rail infrastructure has been adjusted to the specific requirements of the tram depot, e.g. the distance between the track centre lines in the holding hall ensures easy access of the maintenance teams to each draft; the rail surface in the hall allows the movement of wheeled vehicles,” explains Aleksander Furtak, Board Member and Contract Execution Director at KZN Rail.

The second contract, which was also completed a few weeks ago, included the construction of the track bed along ul. Obiegowa and on the overpass along ul. Żołnierska. The works performed by KZN Rail included the laying of the track bed with two types of track: ballasted and ballastless (rail in cover in prefabricated track base plates).

“The Olsztyn contracts are worth several dozen million zlotys in total. After the completed contracts in Bydgoszcz and Toruń, the Olsztyn job will reinforce our position in Northern Poland. Our advantage is the comprehensive surface solution that we can offer our clients, including, aside the construction works, the products and materials manufactured by KZN Bieżanów group, among them such key elements as turnouts and intersections,” emphasises Grzegorz Leszczyński, Chairman of the Board of KZN Rail.
