KZN Rail with a level crossing contract

The executive company of the KZN Bieżanów Group will upgrade nearly forty intersections of railway lines with roads at six railway line plants in southern Poland. This is the outcome of winning the contract “Improving Safety at Crossings of Railway Lines and Roads – Stage I – Level Crossing Part” (“Poprawa bezpieczeństwa na skrzyżowaniach linii kolejowych z drogami – Etap I – część przejazdowa”).

The task includes a design part consisting of development of project documentation and obtaining all the necessary decisions and permits; and a construction and assembly part which includes track and road works, railway automation, telecommunications and power devices. Within this model, KZN Rail will upgrade 36 road/rail intersections in the ZLK areas of Częstochowa, Kielce, Kraków, Nowy Sącz, Rzeszów and Sosnowiec for a budget of more than PLN 40 million.

“This is an interesting project for us, because it is diverse.” says Aleksander Furtak, Member of the Board, Contracts Director of KZN Rail. “Road crossings will be upgraded using variously: an integrated rail and road surface, rubber crossing slabs, small-size slabs or CBP slabs.”

“Together with the winners of other tasks included in this contract, we waited a long time before signing it, repeatedly extending the validity of our offer. Since then, the situation on the market has changed significantly.” says Grzegorz Leszczyński, CEO of KZN Rail, referring to the fact that the opening of offers to tender took place in February 2017. “This raises the bar for the performance of this contract, but I am sure that the task will be carried out in a timely manner with due profits for the company.”

At the same time, KZN Rail is undertaking construction contracts: at the Kraków Zabłocie-Krzemionki siding (completed); track works on railway lines no. 7, 150 and 158; reconstruction of the entry system of the Kraków-Nowa Huta tram depot; and an upgrade of the track layout of Gliwice Port station. The railway turnout contract is an interesting addition to the company’s project portfolio.
