Its production facility in Kraków manufactures turnouts, track systems, and innovative solutions supporting modern rail investments. The company’s expertise also extends to the development of new technologies, supported by the capabilities of the other companies within the KZN Bieżanów Group.As the founding company of the Group, KZN Bieżanów serves as its technological and manufacturing backbone, providing engineering know-how, production capacity, and innovation that drive the development of the entire organization.

Integrated Management System

 

A fundamental aspect of managing our company and the capital group it creates is the concept of a comprehensive approach to investment and maintenance processes related to rail surfaces. With this in mind, we have moved beyond being a simple manufacturer and supplier of track surface components and now provide our customers with a full package of related products and services. This step has allowed us to enter a new level of business, where the core product – the turnout – is offered to the customer along with a complete set of accessories and components, as well as a wide range of services, from consulting, logistics, and warehousing to installation, servicing, repairs, and maintenance.

This goal is the focus of our organizational management strategy. We want our customers to find a professional and comprehensive solution in one place, at KZN "Bieżanów," relieving them of the need to constantly manage track surface components. We are professionals in this area and are able to take on these responsibilities. To get closer to this ambitious task, we manage our organization in such a way that every day our client can see that we are able to take over another aspect of the rail surface from them, even a small one.

History

More than 80 years of tradition have earned us recognition as experts in the rail infrastructure industry. Our long-standing and uninterrupted presence in this market has enabled us to build extensive know-how, deeply embedded within the company and carried forward by our experienced specialists, proven processes, and continuously evolving technologies. This combination of expertise, engineering knowledge, and innovation allows us to deliver reliable, high-quality solutions that meet the demands of modern railway and tram infrastructure projects.

The origins of the company date back to 1945, when, by order of the Director of the State Railways in Kraków, the Steel Track Maintenance Workshops were established on the premises of what is now the Kraków Prokocim locomotive depot.

The company's name changed several times over the years. In the mid-1950s, following the relocation of the company to the Bieżanów district of Kraków, the name Kolejowe Zakłady Nawierzchniowe "Bieżanów" was established. Since then, both the name and the location have remained unchanged.

The 1960s marked a period of dynamic growth, with the production of steel bridge structures becoming one of the company’s key areas of activity. During this time, KZN also operated additional facilities, including a quarry and a gravel pit, further expanding its industrial capabilities and supporting infrastructure projects across the region.

During the 1970s and 1980s, the company narrowed its operations to specialize in railway turnouts.

The first CNC machine marked a milestone in the development of the company’s production capabilities. From that point on, KZN continued to expand its modern machinery fleet.

This was the year when our first tram turnout was manufactured. Our specialization continued to grow.

Completion of the company’s separation from the PKP structures.
From that point on, KZN Bieżanów became a private, independent company.

Based on the parent company, the KZN Bieżanów Group was established. Its goal is to create a comprehensive and competitive offering for rail infrastructure investments, modernization projects, and maintenance.

Today, the KZN Bieżanów Group consists of nine companies, including two established on the basis of innovations developed by us, one created as a Polish-Spanish venture, and one headquartered in Germany.
